More Than Covid: What the Pandemic Exposed in Church and Society

Rev. M. Van Reenen

To many, Covid-19 has been a formidable practical problem requiring practical solutions. This presents us with a far too limited perspective: there is more to consider than Covid alone. The Bible calls us to consider the voice of the Lord through this virus. Are we able to do this? Society and media have been so focused on human interventions that God's calling is often ignored. Rather than directing our attention toward spiritual matters, we risk becoming increasingly attached to the things of this earth. It is therefore crucial to view this pandemic by the light of the Scriptures. If we fail to do so, the consequences will be devastating for our personal lives, for the church, and for society. However, if—urged by the circumstances and led by the Holy Spirit—our lives are guided by God and His Word, the Covid crisis will be blessed. God's Kingdom will come.
